Find out what’s new for the 2019 Ram 1500 with our comprehensive review.
New Performance Features
The Ram 1500 comes with a 305-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine with a hybrid-assist system, eTorque, that combines a belt-driven motor generator powered by a 48-volt battery. This feature works as a start-stop for fuel efficiency, as well as generating torque assistance and brake energy. With eTorque, the torque moves up 90 pound-feet. The eTorque system is also available for the 5.7-liter V-8 model, which adds 130 pound-feet of torque.
These engines pair to a new eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but the two optional four-wheel-drive systems with a two-speed transfer case are still available. A new electronic-locking rear differential is also available. Combining power for a smooth drive, the 8-Speed Automatic 850RE Transmission lets you seamlessly switch gears for a comfortable, relaxing driving experience.
New Air Suspension and Off-Road Package
The new Ram 1500 loses 225 pounds from its curb weight, 120 of which came from the chassis. This lighter frame is reinforced for better strength and resilience with high-strength steel. This new feature improves the truck’s energy absorption in a crash and better protection for passengers.
The independent front suspension is new, but the rear suspension still uses coil springs for a plush ride. The optional air suspension is available as well, which adjusts to the load and tailors the ride height to the driving conditions.
In addition to the off-road features for previous Ram 1500 models, the new 4×4 Off-Road Package includes a one-inch suspension lift, a locking differential, 32-inch tires with 18- or 20-inch wheels for better grip off road, skid plates and hill-descent control.
Improved Towing and Hauling Capacity
Looking for a car with major pull? The Ram has always been a capable hauler, but the redesign brought better towing and hauling capacity than ever before. Depending on the equipment, the new maximum payload is 2,300 pounds, and there are many new features for convenient loading, such as a lift-assist feature for the aluminum tailgate uses a nitrogen and oil-charged strut for smooth lifting.
The towing capacity has improved as well, rising to 12,750 pounds from the 10,640-pound capacity from previous models. To make towing even easier, the available Class-Exclusive Action-Level™ 4-Corner Air Suspension with automatic load leveling helps keep you and your trailer safe and secure, no matter what weather conditions you may face.
The 2019 Ram 1500 doesn’t skimp when it comes to safety! Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path and Trailer Detection keeps you aware of your surroundings at all times. This piece of technology even senses and accounts for the length of your trailer for extra safety consideration.
For those who spend a lot of time on the open road, there’s LaneSense® Lane Departure Warning-Plus to keep you in check. This feature helps prevent accidental lane drifting by giving you a visual alert before safely guiding you back into the proper lane.
Better Interior Space and Comfort
The Ram 1500 now boasts the largest cab in the full-size truck segment. The Quad Cab and Crew Cab body styles are the only ones available for the new model year, both of which use four independently-operating doors for easy entry and exit. These new cabs also offer almost ten inches of additional legroom for rear passengers and enough space for the seats to recline.
Upscale materials have always been a staple for the Ram 1500, but the new model uses premium materials for every trim level. There’s also an improved vent design for improved airflow to the rear-seat passengers and active-noise cancellation technology to keep the interior dead silent, regardless of engine rumble or highway noise.
You’ll love staying connected in your 2019 Ram 1500! The available Uconnect® 4C NAV system comes equipped with the largest-in-class touchscreen available, which measures 12 inches. You can customize the home screen, which has split-screen capabilities and pinch-and-zoom technology.
You can also use your touchscreen to control the tunes in your 1500, navigate safely to the location of your choice, and check in on selected apps. Overall, it’s a fun, easy way to stay connected wherever your adventures may take you.
