Jeep Cherokee Specs

Modern SUV shoppers are looking for a lot from their vehicles, but few have the all-around appeal and practicality of the Jeep Cherokee.

Drivers in Brockton, Randolph and Stoughton can find out more about the Jeep Cherokee specs and features with our in-depth review.

Engine Specs

There are three available engines for the Jeep Cherokee:

  • 4-liter four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque
  • 2-liter V-6 with 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque
  • 0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque

All engines are available in front- or all-wheel drive and use automatic engine stop-start to improve fuel efficiency.

Performance Features

There are several all-wheel-drive systems available to enhance the Jeep Cherokee’s capability.

Active Drive I is included at the base level. This system features a new rear-drive module that reduces the weight by 17 pounds and a wet clutch. It’s automatic and shifts power from the front to rear wheels as needed, but lacks low-range gears.

Active Drive II gives you simulated low-range gearing and a crawl ratio of 51.2:1 with the low gear set. It pairs with the turbo-four engine. This system also uses Selec-Terrain to handle rocks, steep hills, mud paths, snow and other challenging environments, using Sand/Mud, Snow or Rock modes. What makes this system so impressive, however, is how it works with the throttle, transmission and traction control systems to better equip the Jeep Cherokee for changing terrain. This feature can also declutch the rear axle to improve fuel economy.

Active-Drive Lock uses a two-speed transfer case and an electronically-activated mechanical rear differential lock to ensure that the rear tires always rotate, regardless of the traction conditions, so you can find your way out of slippery spots.

Finally, the Trailhawk model uses many off-road-oriented features to enhance its capability, such as the Selec-Speed control system. This system keeps a steady speed for uphill or downhill runs, ensuring that you never lose control of your vehicle’s speed in rugged environments. It has nine settings that correspond to the transmission gears, ranging between 0.6 and 9 mph. This is an excellent feature for technical terrain or steep grades.

The Jeep Cherokee is also capable of towing up to 4,500 pounds, depending on the configuration.

Trim Levels and Features

The Jeep Cherokee is available in Latitude, Latitude Plus, Overland, Limited and Trailhawk models. All models get automatic LED headlights, roof rails, fog lights, eight cargo tiedowns, power accessories, cloth upholstery and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a USB port, Bluetooth connectivity and a six-speaker audio system.

Some highlighted features across the trim levels include dual-zone climate control, blind-spot monitors, remote start, a hands-free power liftgate, nappa leather upholstery, heated and cooled seats, premium audio and adaptive cruise control.

The Trailhawk model is equipped with several specialized features as well, including an off-road suspension, 17-inch tires, skid plates and tow hooks.
