Jeep Grand Cherokee Towing Capacity – V6 Options
The new Grand Cherokee offers four engine variants and 12 trim level options, all with different capabilities, so it’s easy to determine which model is best for your towing and recreational needs.
The base engine is a 3.6-liter V6 that puts out 295 horsepower with 260 lb-ft of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It’s the standard engine across all trim levels except for the SRT® and Trackhawk. With 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive, the 3.6-liter V6 models are capable of towing 3,500 pounds in the Laredo, Upland, and Limited X. With the other trim levels that come with this engine, the 2019 Grand Cherokee can tow a maximum of 6,200 pounds.
Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 and HEMI® Towing Capacity
Next up is the 5.7-liter HEMI® V8, which kicks up 360 horsepower with 390 lb-ft of torque, mated to an 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission. It’s available for the 4×4 Limited, Trailhawk®, Limited X, Overland, High Altitude, and Summit trim levels. The towing capacity of this Grand Cherokee engine is either 5,000 pounds or 7,200 pounds depending on the trim level.
One of the two V8 options is the 6.4-liter HEMI® that delivers 475 horsepower combined with 470 lb-ft of torque, mated to an 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission. It’s only available for the SRT® trim level. With 4-wheel drive, the Grand Cherokee SRT® is capable of towing 7,200 pounds.
The other V8 engine is a supercharged 6.2-liter, which produces 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It’s only available in the Trackhawk trim, and is rated for 7,200 pounds of towing capacity in 4-wheel drive.
The 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee has some impressive payload capacity as well. With the 3.6-liter V6, the Laredo, Laredo E, Upland, and Altitude are rated for an 1,180-pound payload in 2-wheel drive and a 1,370-pound payload in 4-wheel drive. The Grand Cherokee Limited and Limited X are rated for a 1,260-pound payload in 2-wheel drive and a 1,380-pound payload in 4-wheel drive.
With the 5.7-liter V8 and 4-wheel drive, the Limited and Limited X are rated for a 1,380-pound payload, the Trailhawk® is rated for an 1,130-pound payload, the Overland and High Altitude are rated for a 1280-pound payload, and the Summit is rated for a 1,160-pound payload.
The V8, 4-wheel drive SRT®, and Trackhawk are each rated for a 1,350-pound payload.
