2020 Jeep Wrangler vs Toyota Tacoma

The 2020 Jeep Wrangler and the Toyota Tacoma have some comparable towing capacities and off-roading capabilities. It can be difficult to decide which will best suit your needs and specifications. Today, we’re going to break down some of the nitty gritty similarities and differences between the two.

Brockton, Randolph, and Stoughton drivers who might be interested can stop by Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram 24 for a test drive to help make their decision.

Jeep Wrangler

Powerhouse Engines

This year, the new Wrangler is being offered with Jeep’s newly available 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine, bringing with it 442 lb-ft torque. The Tacoma also offers a V6 engine, but it just churns out 265 lb-ft of torque.

Some Wrangler engines are also offered with the eTorque Mild Hybrid System, a system that provides even smoother shifts between gears, transitions, and off-roading. The 2020 Jeep Wrangler offers this system with the 2.0L Turbo engine and the 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine.

The Tacoma has an Atkinson-cycle 3.5L V6 direct-injection engine with Variable Valve Timing. However, it doesn’t offer a Mild Hybrid System of any kind, which means gear shifting will likely be more challenging and it’ll eat up more fuel along the way.

If you’re looking for more engine options, the Wrangler is the way to go. The Wrangler offers five available engines, while the Tacoma only offers two.

2020 Wrangler vs Tacoma: Exterior

The 2020 Tacoma and Wrangler seat up to five people. The 2020 Tacoma comes with a standard 5-foot short bed that comes equipped with four fixed cargo points.

If you want more variety for transporting and strapping down your gear, the 2020 Wrangler’s Trail Rail™ System enables you to keep your equipment secure in back, while the Jeep Utility Grid helps you organize all your belongings inside.

The Jeep’s Trail Rail™ System and Utility Grid give you a lot more options when organizing cargo, letting you get creative.

Off-Roading

A new available feature for the 2020 Jeep Wrangler is the available Off-Road Pages, which appears on the touchscreen display and provides you with important stats, such as wheel articulation, suspension height settings, transmission temperature, and more. For the truly adventurous and committed off-roader, this could be a game changer.

The 2020 Toyota Tacoma has an available Multi-terrain Monitor, which is an 8-inch screen that shows immediate front, rear, or side surroundings to help you navigate around obstacles. However, it doesn’t have anywhere close to the same level of detail or real-time updates that the Wrangler’s Off-Road Pages offers.

Both the Wrangler and the Tacoma are highly capable when it comes to rock crawling. The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon trim offers the electronic front sway bar disconnect, which lets you control the sway bar directly from inside the cabin.

Optional Tacoma TRD Crawl Control automatically adjusts both the throttle and the brakes on five low-speed settings. This lets the driver to focus on other things while off-roading, but it doesn’t allow for direct control.

See for Yourself

Whether you’re taking more local trips through Massachusetts or chasing the sun to the West, you need the right vehicle to get you there. If you’re looking for a smooth-shifting performance, want detailed updates from Off-Road Pages, and love to feel the wind in your hair from every angle, then the 2020 Jeep Wrangler is the ride for you.
