Ram 1500 vs Toyota Tacoma

The 2019 Ram 1500 and the 2019 Toyota Tacoma are two capable pickup trucks that share many similarities, such as powerful performance and innovative features, but which is the right choice for your needs?

Drivers in Brockton, Randolph, and Stoughton can learn more about these two pickup trucks with our Ram 1500 vs. Toyota Tacoma comparison.

The Ram 1500 comes with several engine options, including a 5.7-liter V8 that produces 395 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque, which can tow up to 12,750 pounds. The Tacoma’s most powerful engine is a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 278 horsepower and has a maximum tow rating of 6,800 pounds.

The road manners and capability differ between the Ram 1500 and the Tacoma as well. While the Ram 1500 has a ride quality that’s similar to a luxury sedan, the Tacoma rides more like an older pickup that struggles under its own weight. The Ram 1500 can also be equipped with an air suspension system, which improves the ride even more.

The Ram 1500 comes in either Quad Cab or Crew Cab models, with a 5-foot 7-inch or 6-foot 4-inch bed length. The Tacoma also has extend-cab and crew-cab models, as well as a 5-foot or 6-foot bed. With options ranging from a stripped-down work model to a decadent luxury model with premium leather upholstery, the Ram 1500 has the nicest and most comfortable interior among pickup trucks. Unfortunately, the Tacoma’s roofline and legroom are limiting, making it difficult for taller passengers to stay comfortable over longer distances.

For storage, the Ram offers RamBox® cargo bins, which integrate into the bed of the truck for safe, secure storage. Cargo tie-downs, a bedliner, in-bed lighting, and other features improve the cargo flexibility as well. The Tacoma offers nothing beyond the bed itself.

The Ram 1500 comes with a Uconnect® infotainment system with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility and a 5-inch, 7-inch, 8.4-inch, or 12-inch touchscreen. Regardless of which system you choose, you’ll enjoy sharp graphics and exceptional usability, but the 12-inch touchscreen is a definite highlight. The Tacoma offers a touchscreen infotainment system, but it’s found higher up the trim levels and maxes out with a 7-inch touchscreen. In addition, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone integration aren’t available in the Toyota.

An infotainment system is a useful feature in a modern vehicle, giving you access to entertainment and media for your daily drive. With features like navigation, Bluetooth® compatibility, and smartphone integration, there’s virtually limitless possibilities for your on-the-go entertainment. The Ram 1500 not only has the more advanced infotainment system compared with the Tacoma, but it also has a wider range of features and options to improve the experience.
