Jeep Grand Cherokee Towing Capacity: V6 Options

The Grand Cherokee offers four engine options and 12 trim levels, all of which come with different capabilities. This makes it easy for you to determine which model is best for your towing and recreational needs.

The base engine is a 3.6-liter V6 engine that puts out 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and comes paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It's the standard engine across all of the trim levels, except the SRT and the Trackhawk trims.

When properly equipped, the 3.6-liter V6 engine models are capable of towing 3,500 pounds in the Laredo E, the Freedom, the Laredo X, the Limited, and the Limited X trims. With the other trim levels that come with this engine, the 2021 Grand Cherokee can tow a maximum of 6,200 pounds when properly equipped.

Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 and HEMI® Towing Capacity

Next up is the 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 engine, which kicks up 360 horsepower with 390 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It's available for the 4×4 Limited, Trailhawk, Limited X, Overland, High Altitude, and Summit trim levels. The towing capacity of this Grand Cherokee engine is a maximum of 7,200 pounds when properly equipped.

Another of the V8 engine options is the 6.4-liter SRT® V8 engine. This engine delivers 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, and comes paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It's standard on the SRT trim level. With 4WD, the Grand Cherokee SRT trim is capable of towing 7,200 pounds when properly equipped.

The other V8 engine is a Supercharged 6.2L V8 engine, which produces 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque. It comes paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It's only available in the Trackhawk trim and offers a 7,200-pound towing capacity with 4WD and when properly equipped.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Payload Capacity

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee has some impressive payload capacity as well. With the 3.6-liter V6 engine, the Laredo E, the Freedom, and the Laredo X trims have an 1,180-pound payload in 2WD and a 1,370-pound payload in 4WD when properly equipped. The Grand Cherokee Limited and Limited X trims offer a 1,260-pound payload in 2WD and a 1,380-pound payload in 4WD when properly equipped.

With 4WD and when properly equipped, the Trailhawk trim offers an 1,130-pound payload capacity, the Overland and the High Altitude trims provide a 1,280-pound payload capacity, and the Summit trim gives you a 1,160-pound payload capacity.

The 4WD SRT and Trackhawk trims each come with a 1,350-pound payload capacity when properly equipped.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Cargo Capacity

The Grand Cherokee's impressive towing allows drivers to haul plenty of things outside of the vehicle. However, did you know this SUV also boasts quite a bit of cargo room?

That's right! This rugged ride has a maximum interior cargo volume of 68.3 cubic feet, so you'll never have to leave anything behind. Plus, with 60/40 split-folding rear seats, you can configure your vehicle as needed. Fold half of the second row down and easily store longer items, like oars or surfboards.

With this combination of towing capacity and cargo room, the possibilities are endless! Hook up your boat and fill the trunk with rods, bait, tackle, and a cooler full of beverages. Attach your trailer and load your Grand Cherokee with all of your camping gear. Wherever you choose to take your Jeep, you'll have the space to make the most of it.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Accessories

While the Grand Cherokee is powerful on its own, it's even better when paired with Jeep's available accessories. For example, you can choose between a set of rugged wheels and tires designed for both on-road and off-road fun.

Navigate through Massachusetts' snowy winters with standard all-season tires or opt for powerful BSW 3-season tires. As for wheels, the Grand Cherokee offers a variety of available options, such as the 20-inch by 10-inch black satin aluminum wheels offered on the Trackhawk trim.

Inside, the optional Dual-Pane Panoramic Sunroof brings the outside in with stunning views across the entire cabin and looks great against the Trackhawk trim's Suede Nappa performance seats.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Safety Features

Stay safe on your journey with Jeep's suite of advanced safety features. The safety features in the Grand Cherokee are classified into three categories: ProTech I, ProTech II, and Advanced ProTech II.

ProTech I is standard on all of the Grand Cherokee models and contains:

  • Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path Detection
  • ParkSense® Rear Park Assist
  • ParkView® Rear Back Up Camera

Blind Spot Monitoring looks out for vehicles in your blind zones while Rear Cross Path Detection watches out for cars in your path while in reverse. This is helpful while you're towing because it monitors your surroundings at all times. Even if you can't see behind your trailer, this system will let you know if any obstacles or vehicles are getting too close.

As for ParkSense® Rear Park Assist and ParkView® Rear Back Up Camera, these innovative systems provide parking confidence while backing up and help you with navigating while towing. The ParkView® Rear Back Up Camera includes dynamic gridlines, which means that you can line up the back of your vehicle with your trailer easily.

ProTech II adds a few extra features to the mix, such as Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking and LaneSense® Lane Departure Warning. This is available on the Laredo E and the Laredo X trims. You can tow confidently with Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking, knowing that this cutting-edge feature will stop both your vehicle and your trailer as soon as a potential collision is detected.

Finally, there's Advanced ProTech II, which includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go as well as Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist. The Advanced ProTech II package is available for the Limited, the Trailhawk, and the Overland trims and standard on the High Altitude, the Summit, the SRT, and the Trackhawk trims.
